We're all used to the seemingly constant parade of fast, low-slung cars rumbling around Dubai's packed JBR on a Friday night - most of them struggling to get over the speed bumps. However, none of those guys are driving the new BMW i8.

Expected to go on sale across the Middle East later this month, the futuristic hybrid - which the German manufacturer calls 'the most progressive sports car' - has already been spotted bombing around Downtown and Jumeirah.

Powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder twinpower turbo petrol engine, which combines with an electric motor to send 362bhp to all four wheels, the i8 can complete the 0-100km/h dash in just 4.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Thanks to its revolutionary hybrid system, the i8 uses just 2.5 litres of petrol for every 100km, and can operate solely in zero-emissions all-electric mode for around 37km.

Aside from all that, it's absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. We can't wait to see this one stuck in JBR's traffic.
