Pimp your house: the ultimate in home upgrades
From home cinemas and booming sound systems, to stylish saunas and indoor snow rooms, here are the best ways to live in luxury.April 13, 2015
Here at EDGAR, we're always looking for ways to improve where we live. In the past we've explored stylish living room upgrades, smart gadgets to spice up the kitchen and even awesome design pianos that are so much more than just musical instruments.
However, to truly upgrade your living space, a cool bit of furniture or a clever gadget isn't always enough. Sometimes the only way to achieve something really impressive is to go big - and by that we mean sound systems, saunas and cinemas.
While we wouldn't recommend going to the expense of installing all this lot if you're living in rented accommodation, for homeowners who want to give their place an x-factor, it really doesn't get any better than this. Here are two companies that can help you pimp your house.
Imagine having a sauna in your own house. At first we thought it was a ridiculous idea - how on earth is it possible to get a sauna to blend into its surroundings and not look totally and utterly out of place? But then we saw a few of these Klafs designs and quickly changed our minds.
As well as the stunning selection of saunas on offer, the German company also offers all manner of creative home spa solutions, such as heated loungers for when you've just stepped out of the shower and, perhaps more appropriate for its Middle East clientele, a creation called the Scheeparadies - basically a snow-filled room that's kept at a constant below-freezing temperature. Apparently it's healthy to go in there, take a few deep breaths and rub yourself down with snow every now and again.
While usually we'd be disinclined to believe such a claim, the sauna specialists at Klafs have been supplying health centres and spas with their products for the past 80 years, so it's probably safe to assume that they know a thing or two about what works and what doesn't. Details: Klafs-me.com
In the world of high-end home improvements, the huge screens, booming speakers and awesome cinema chairs that fall within the ever-widening remit of home entertainment is where the seriously cool upgrades can be had. And when it comes to home entertainment in Dubai, there is very little that Dubai Audio doesn't offer.
Based on Sheikh Zayed Road, the company acts as a distributer for some of the world's top tech brands and it offers a range of audio, video, home cinema, lighting, and home control systems, all designed for the customer who has an appreciation for the finer things in life.
A few options that caught our eye were: Cineak, hand-crafted luxury seating perfect for a home cinema; Dynalite, a home control system that integrates lighting, blinds and air conditioning into one user interface; and Geneva, an all-in-one sound system that puts out perfectly balanced sound using only one box and without the usual mess of wires.
