Dubai International Boat Show sails into town

From superyachts to stand-up paddle boarding, this year's DIBS has something for everyone.

February 28, 2016

The number of superyachts in the UAE and wider Gulf region is really quite ridiculous – see what we mean here with the biggest superyachts in the Middle East.

To put it in figures, the region is home to 12 per cent of all the world’s superyachts – that’s 193 boats – with the average length measuring 63 metres.

The evolution each year of the Dubai International Boat Show has reflected the local love for gigantic yachts, but this year’s show, running from March 1-5, will also showcase a more experiential lifestyle.

According to its organisers, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the 2016 show will reflect the signs of growth in the UAE’s marine industry, from sailing and fishing trips to water sport stunts and on-yacht dining experiences.

For the first time, DWTC has opened up the beach at Dubai International Marine Club to visitors, allowing for taster sessions in catamarans, stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing and kayaking.

There will also be water-based stunts including jetpacks, flyboards and fly bikes, as well as a marina sea school where participants can learn how to drive a boat.

For the superyacht purists, fear not, there will of course be the usual large yachts on show, with a number of global launches and debuts expected from the 800 international and regional exhibitors.

Dubai International Boat Show takes place at Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi, from 1st to 5th of March. boatshowdubai.com
