The new Bentley is the fastest four-seater ever

The Continental Supersports will have 700bhp and a top speed of 336 km/h.

They may be two weeks late but the people at Bentley Motors have just delivered a humdinger of a tardy Christmas present; their fastest and most powerful production car ever.

It’s the new Continental Supersports and Bentley claims it’s the most powerful and fastest four-seater ever made, beating the Ferrari GTC4Lusso’s top speed by 1mph and matching its 0-60mph time of 3.4 seconds.

The 700bhp grand tourer will be available both as a hardtop coupe and soft top convertible, which respectively will be the fastest four-seat convertible on the planet. 

The Supersports will use the same W12 engine found in the Continental GT Speed, until now the most powerful and fastest Bentley, although it’s been redeveloped with new high-performance turbos. It’s also been given a revised charge-air cooling system to create more boost and power, upgrades on the cranktrain and a new torque converter - the same that's used on the GT3-R track model. All of these upgrades and tweaking have led to an increase of 79bhp and 160lb ft over the old 2009 Supersports model. Put simply, the new Bentley is a complete beast. 

With all that power a lot will be required of the brakes. The carbon ceramic stoppers will have enchanced cooling and will use the largest discs of their type. They will sit behind 21” forged allow wheels.

Clearly the new Supersports looks unmistakably Conti-esque, but there are some subtle differences. It has new front and rear bumper designs incorporating a carbon-fibre splitter and diffuser, carbon-fibre bonnet vents, side sill extensions, gloss black front wing vents and rifled exhaust tailpipes. The headlamps and tail-lamps have also been given a dark tint, as have the front grilles, lights, rear bumper and door handles. 

That's as far as the standard Supersports goes. There are of course the added extras. Options include an aerodynamically balanced rear spoiler and front splitter combination for the coupe, Supersports badging, black and bright-machined finish for the 21” forged alloy wheels and side decals.

The car will also showcase a unique colour split from Bentley’s designers, using the first tri-tone interior in this generation of the Continental GT. They’ve also created a new diamond-quilted design which is used in the seats and door side panels. 

Customers will also be able to use an ‘X-Specification’ pack for further personalisation, consisting of eight unique duo-tone paint treatments and carbon-fibre accents. And that’s before it can even be handed over to Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke department.

There’s no price or release date for the Middle East yet, but EDGAR does know that UK customers are expecting delivery in April this year. Watch this space for our test-drive review.
