In the fast-paced world we all live in today, sometimes it pays to take a step back from the stress of modern life, look around us and show a bit of appreciation for the beautiful country we live in.

That's exactly what Dubai-based filmmaker Lewis de Mesa did when he produced this captivating video, which shows the UAE at it's very best through the winter months.

Starting in January 2011, de Masa spent six months exploring the entire UAE in search of interesting and unique scenery for his film. The journey took him some 4,000km around the cities of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, and he took around 300,000 images along the way.

The whole trip must have been exhausting, but as you can see from the final video above, it was all worth it in the end. In fact, the film was such a success that de Masa decided that he wanted to recreate it, only this time during the summer months:

This second compilation was shot between the months of April and August in both 2012 and 2013. As we all know, the summer weather in the UAE is inhospitable to say the least - with temperatures regularly rising above 50° C and humidity reaching up to 90 per cent - so you'll notice that many of the shots in this film are at nighttime.

But far from hindering the film, the nighttime shots actually add to it, allowing us a detailed view of the majestic Milky Way shot from the highest peak in the UAE, Jebel Hafeet.

The powerful score behind both films was produced by New York-based composer Ryan Scully, and is the perfect backing to these wondrous shots of the UAE in all its glory. Now, sit back, relax and watch these short films, showing the UAE at its very best. Details: visit
