Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, and the Rolling Stones
– that would be quite a dinner party, wouldn’t it?

These famous faces are in fact the subjects of a new photography exhibition celebrating the work of acclaimed photographer Cecil Beaton.

The 60 remarkable vintage portraits represent the first time Beaton’s work has been on show in the Middle East and can been seen this May at Sotheby’s in DIFC.

Screen stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, Laurence Oliver, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly also feature in the exhibition, as do the artists Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali. From the world of fashion and modelling are Coco Chanel, Christian Dior and Twiggy. Queen Elizabeth even makes an appearance.

The images have been taken from the archive of Cecil Beaton, an award-winning set and costume designer for film and theatre who also captured celebrities with his camera.

The British photographer transferred his archive of more than 9,000 prints to Sotheby’s in 1977 and this landmark exhibition marks the 40th anniversary of that deed. The exhibition runs from May 8-27 at Sotheby’s gallery space in DIFC.
