A real American 'meatery' – this is The Hide

Review: We go and eat where meat matters most in Dubai.

If you are serious about your meat, new steakhouse The Hide at Al Qasr is the only place for you.

From the stunning DIY rose veal tartare (AED 70) and surprisingly tasty crispy calf’s tongue with charred beets (AED 65) to the OMG onion rings with confit duck and Cheddar curd (AED 35), the starters and sides are almost a meal in themselves.

But don’t fill up too much, because it is the main course where The Hide really excels. While the restaurant serves all the standard cuts of steak, the best flavour comes from the ‘forgotten cuts’ section of the menu, which includes the bits that are so tasty the butchers usually keep them for themselves.

Try the flavour-packed flank steak served with Portobello mushrooms (AED 165) or, for the real meat connoisseur, the double-cut, on-the-bone loin steak of dry-aged Iberico beef straight from Spain, served with smoked confit garlic and port-glazed shallots (AED 700, for two to share).

There are classic American desserts of deep-dish russet apple pie (AED 60, for two to share) and cheesecake soufflé (AED 45), and as if all that wasn’t enough, The Hide is also the only restaurant in Dubai to offer 54 different wines by the glass. This is a place for serious foodies.
