California's new Rat Pack destination

June 15, 2014

With beautiful mountain views, stunning mid-century modern architecture and an abundance of luxury shopping, it is easy to see why Rancho Mirage in California has been a longtime favourite with US Presidents and members of the Rat Pack. The likes of Richard Nixon and Ronald Regan have holidayed there - more recently Barack Obama - and Frank Sinatra used to own a house in the sun-drenched destination. But if all of those names went back today, we wouldn't bet against them staying at the latest luxury resort in the area, a new Ritz-Carlton hotel. The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage offers spectacular, panoramic views of the dramatic Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountain ranges, with its peaceful hilltop location ensuring that guests have the utmost level of privacy. With 244 guest rooms - nearly all featuring large private patios, and some with their own fire pits - the hotel is designed to promote an open air lifestyle. As well as its three swimming pools, the resort also boasts a gigantic, two-storey spa complex featuring private whirlpools, rain and Vichy showers, eucalyptus-infused steam and sauna facilities and a comprehensive fitness centre. You won't go hungry either, with the State Fare Bar & Kitchen offering the best of Californian cuisine, The Edge serving up succulent steaks and the Air Pool Bar specialising in sushi al fresco, all on site. If it's good enough for Ol' Blue Eyes and the most powerful man in the world, it's good enough for us. [gallery link="none" ids="3337,3340,3338,3339,3297"] Details: visit
