Public Holiday For UAE On May 25
May 14, 2014
It has been over four months since the UAE's last public holiday, but as the saying goes: good things come to those who wait.
A holiday on Sunday 25 May to mark Isra Wal Miraj has been declared, according to state news agency WAM.
A circular issued on Tuesday evening confirmed the public holiday has been moved from its expected date of Monday 26 to the day before.
This means UAE residents will get to enjoy a long weekend that just happens to coincide with several local and international events.
A once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower is expected in the early hours of Saturday 24, while finals in both rugby and football's pinnacle European events - the Champions League and the Heineken Cup - both take place on Sunday.
Not only that, but the gem of the Formula One calendar the Monaco Grand Prix
also takes place the same weekend.
So then, three days to be outside enjoying the sun... You'll find us anywhere with a big screen.
Isra Wal Miraj marks the spiritual journey taken by Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem. The event is observed on the 27th day of the month of Rajab, the seventh month in the Islamic calendar.
