Which GCC country is the 5th most desired place globally to migrate to?

The answer will surprise you, as it’s not the UAE…

Leaving home and moving abroad is one of life’s great adventures. If you’re reading this in the UAE in fact, chances are you or your family migrated to the country some years ago, and you've been enjoying the benefits of living abroad ever since.

You're not alone. US-based research company Gallup has conducted a study on the number of adults who would like to live abroad and 630 million people – that’s about 13 per cent of the world’s adult population – say they want to take the plunge.

The United States comes first in the list of the most popular countries to immigrate to, followed by the United Kingdom, Canada and France; the usual suspects.

A touch more surprising however is that Saudi Arabia comes in at number five. That’s right – the Kingdom is the fifth most desired place for people to move to, with 29 million adults saying they want to make it happen.

The report doesn’t say whether Saudi’s place in the list comes as a result of it being home to Mecca, it’s huge government-sector salary packets or because it is building the world’s tallest tower (unlikely) but whatever the reason, the facts make interesting reading.

Gallup does say that it is Pakistanis who most desire to relocate to Saudi, while the US’s residents-in-waiting predominantly come from China, Nigeria and India.

These findings are based on a rolling average of Gallup interviews with 501,366 adults in 154 countries between 2010 and 2012. For more visit gallup.com
