The 10 best places to propose in the UAE
Looking for that ideal spot to get engaged in the emirates? We've rounded them up for you.Meryl D'Souza May 4, 2016
We all have days and occasions we look forward to. For most women, the cherished ones are the classic three: her engagement, her wedding, becoming a mother.
If you’re lucky enough to find a girl who’s just as crazy about you as you are about her, you’re probably thinking of putting a ring on it. Hell, you’ve even got your ring picked out.
But the hard part is only beginning, and if you're living in the UAE, you're probably wondering where would be the perfect place to pop the question.
Here are some of the most romantic, unusual and certainly unforgettable spots in the emirates for those four life-altering words.
They call it falling in love, so take the plunge. The mechanics are simple:
- Both of you jump off the plane
- Get the instructors to let you land first
- Have the banner ready below
- Have the instructor land just above
You wouldn’t be the first guy to do it but it’s still a great way to pop the question. The team at Skydive Dubai will even film the whole thing for you.
Hot air balloon
If you like the idea of popping the question mid-air but you’re not quite ready to jump out of a plane, then we suggest you try a hot-air balloon. There's something undeniably thrilling about floating over the country at sunset, toasting champagne, and making out with your new fiancée.
At the Top, Burj Khalifa Observation Deck
If she’s a stickler for rom-coms mostly starring Meg Ryan, there is literally no better way to sweep her off her feet. Who needs the Empire State Building when you can take her up to the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa – the highest viewing deck in the world. She’ll literally be on top of the world.
You may call it boring, but there’s nothing that can beat the charm of a dinner date. So go on, book a table for two on the terrace, watch the Dubai Fountains in all their showboating glory and enjoy the Thai cuisine before wrapping it up with a diamond ring.
It’s just you and her (and the skipper) in the middle of the blue sea. You could even go the whole hog and arrange for a personal chef with dinner on the deck.
Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Al Yamm Villa Resort
Whisk her away from the concrete jungle to the closest thing the UAE has to an African safari. Sir Bani Yas Island has everything from mountain biking and horse riding to archery, falconry and water sports. Remote and offering jaw-dropping sea views, it doesn’t get more picture-perfect. If you can’t find an unforgettable proposal spot in this setting, perhaps you should reconsider making a lifetime commitment.
If you will go to any heights to impress her, the 4,000 ft plus altitude of Jabel Hafeet should not be a challenge. It’s hard to pick just one spot, but the peak in Al Ain is usually picturesque and green.
Atlantis Dolphin Bay or diving in The Lost Chambers
We figure it’s almost impossible to say no when dolphins are asking the question. Alternatively, you could dive underwater and write it down as 65,000 marine animals – including stingrays and sharks – swim by.
A winter wonderland right in the middle of the desert is one heck of a place to drop the M-bomb. And while skiing is cooler, how about you wait for the penguins to show up before going down on one knee. It’s symbolic. You see, when a male penguin falls in love with a female penguin, he searches the entire beach to find the perfect pebble to present to her. When he finds it, he waddles over and places it in front of her as a proposal. Cue the awwws.
This may not seem romantic or special but stay with us; you’ll need to do a lot of legwork for this one. Get between 10-12 decent singers into the train, time your and your soon-to-be-fiancé’s entry and have the strangers sing her favourite song in a flash mob with you proposing at the end. Cue tears of joy.
Note: If you don’t know her favourite song, go with “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli.
