After 6,125 nautical miles, the six remaining vessels taking part in a round the world yacht race will sail into Abu Dhabi at some point this weekend, hopefully with the emirate's own boat 'Azzam' leading the way.

The Volvo Ocean Race lands in the UAE at the end of its second leg from Cape Town, where it will reside until January 3 before casting off for China.

The 38,739 nautical mile race is one of the toughest sporting events in the world - one of the seven teams competing this year has already been suspended after capsizing on a reef in the Indian Ocean.

Abu Dhabi's yacht 'Azzam' - meaning 'determination' - has recorded its journey so far with some incredible photos, as well as a video (above) of the UAE National on board, Adil Khalid.

Here's a selection of the best shots, and a taste of what you can expect in the UAE capital until the end of the year: Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing Volvo Ocean Race.
