From Suarez to Rooney, we rank the most successful Premier League transfer deadline day signings ever.
With the Premier League’s summer transfer window set to slam shut tonight, clubs up and down the country are working furiously to secure last-minute signings.
While there have been plenty of deadline-day flops (Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres, we’re looking at you), there have also been some absolute gems.

When: August 2008.
Fee: £30.75 million.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is notoriously hard-nosed when it comes to negotiating fees for his players, so when Manchester United came called for their star striker, Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov, he made sure to get every penny he could.
The fee of more than £30 million might seem steep, but for a player who ultimately went on to win two Premier League titles for the club, making 149 appearances and scoring 56 goals in the process, it actually represents decent value.
When: August 2008.
Fee: £15 million.
A man who would probably show up on most people's 'top 10 panic buy' lists after his decidedly mixed spell at Manchester United, it's easy to forget what a success Fellaini was for Everton.
Brought in for £15 million, he quickly established himself as a dominant force in midfield and became something of a cult hero amongst fans of the Toffees. And to top it off, he made his club a healthy profit when he was sold to Manchester United for £27.5 million in 2013.
When: January 2010.
Fee: £3.25 million.
Taking advantage of Portsmouth's financial troubles, Stoke managed to pick up highly rated keeper Begovic for a cut-price £3.25 million.
He went on to make 172 appearances for the Potters, winning the club’s Player of the Year award twice on the bounce and establishing himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League, before moving to Chelsea this summer for £8 million.

Fee: Free.
In 2007, perennial Premier League strugglers Fulham turned to Spurs’ Danny Murphy to add some craft to their midfield. Despite not commanding a transfer fee, Murphy became a mainstay of the team, scoring the winning goal in an away win at Portsmouth that guaranteed the London club's safety.
Murphy also captained the club through its incredible Europa League run in the 2009/10 season, which saw them overcome Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk, Wolfsburg and Hamburg on the way to the final.
When: August 2010.
Fee: £8 million.
One of then Spurs manager and renowned wheeler-dealer Harry Redknapp's best ever signings, Rafael van der Vaart joined the club for a bargain £8 million from Real Madrid.
The Dutchman went on to star in the Premier League and in Europe for Tottenham, scoring an impressive 23 goals in 63 appearances from midfield, and endearing himself to the White Heart Lane faithful, before moving on to German club Humburg.
When: August 2012.
Fee: £8 million.
The captain of his national team and a previous winner of the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award, Frenchman Hugo Lloris came to Tottenham with a big reputation, and he hasn’t disappointed in any of his 122 appearances to date.
The mooted £29 million fee Real Madrid seemed willing to pay for Manchester United’s David De Gea, who many regard as of a similar standard to Lloris, shows just what a bargain Spurs got with this signing.

One of the most sensational coups in Premier League history, Argentinian Carlos Tevez will always be remembered amongst West Ham fans for almost single-handedly saving the Hammers from relegation.
Although third party ownership issues ultimately cost the club a fine of almost £20 million on top of Tevez’s undisclosed transfer fee, it was a small price to pay for Premier League safety.
When: January 2011.
Fee: £22.8 million.
The almost £23 million fee Liverpool paid for Suarez made him their record signing (until the arrival of Andy Carroll a few hours later) and with an impressive 82 goals from 133 appearances for the club and a PFA Players’ Player of the Year award in 2013/14, he was well worth the money.
Suarez's only downfall was his short fuse, but even with questions over his temperament, Liverpool still managed to sell him to Spanish giants Barcelona for a cool £75 million.

Fee: £5 million plus William Gallas.
Moving across London from Arsenal to Chelsea was never going to be easy, but Ashley Cole managed it with aplomb.
Not only did Chelsea manage to offload troubled defender William Galls as part of the deal, but the player they got in return turned out to be arguably the best left back ever to play in the Premier League, winning everything there is to win in the English game.
When: August 2004.
Fee: £25.6 million.
At just 18 years old, Wayne Ronney was already being tipped as the future of English football. Such was his stock, Sir Alex Ferguson readily handed over £25 million to Everton to secure his services.
And despite a career of ups and downs, there are few deadline day signings who have provided such longevity as Rooney, who looks set to break Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time scoring record for the club.
