Dress like him: style breakdown of Ranveer Singh

Everything you need to look as good as the Bollywood star.

Attending a black tie event is no excuse for you to show up looking like a penguin. It’s 2016, and while we love the classic styles, it’s time you branched out a bit.

Take inspiration from Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh who was in the UAE this past weekend for the Times Of India Film Awards (TOIFA). Known for his eccentric style and incredulous levels of energy – to go with his acting chops for which he won Best Actor – Ranveer stole the show from the bigger names in Indian cinema.

Here’s how you can dress like Bollywood’s current numero uno:

The dinner jacket

You’ll need a satin blue dinner jacket with black lapels.

Burton blazer: AED 585 at Namshi.

As soon as you get it, take it to your tailor and get it tapered to fit. If the black lapels aren’t your thing, you can go for something like this.

Selected Homme blazer: AED 430 at Namshi.

Pro tip: Pocket squares drive up your style quotient by double. Wear one. Even better, wear a printed one.

The shirt

You can never go wrong with a white shirt. But you need to throw in some contrast. So pick one with black buttons. Since it’s going to be covered, you can even cheat and throw on a regular fit.

Asos Oxford Shirt: AED 105 at Asos.

Pro tip: Bow ties look better with wing collars.

The bow tie

It’s preferable to tie your own bow tie. It’s the imperfections that make it look better. Remember that saying, “Too much of a good thing….”

Forzieri bowtie: AED 185 at MarkaVIP.

The trousers

Just because you’re throwing on a blue blazer doesn’t make it an obligation to wear matching trousers. Wearing black trousers lets your coloured blazer become the centre of attention.

The Kooples trousers: AED 643 at MarkaVIP.

The shoes

Cap-toe black Oxfords. Because you’re not trying too hard.

Gordon Rush shoes: AED 496 at MarkaVIP.
