Piaget unveils the Polo S with Michael B. Jordan

The 42mm timepiece becomes the luxury Swiss watchmaker’s first ever all-steel collection.

Piaget has always been one of the more traditional Swiss watchmakers.

Still based out of its 1874-founded headquarters in the sleepy hills of La Côte-aux-Fées, the company continues resolutely to manufacture its own movements. Its watches are usually made of platinum or gold, with $10,000 the standard base price for its men’s watches.

As a result, its pieces have not always been the most accessible, or trendy, to a younger audience. But that might be about to change.

Piaget has taken the unprecedented step of unveiling its first ever all-steel collection: the Polo S. Not only that, the brand has named several ambassadors to represent the watch.

Based on the iconic Polo watch from 1979, the steel collection comprises of two versions: a three-hand with date finder and a chronograph, both with sapphire casebacks and brand new automatic movements.

The Polo S is availabe in blue, silver or slate-grey dials with a horizontal line motif, while the Polo S chronograph comes in silver or blue. Both have a cushion-shaped dial within its 42mm round case, with the price ranging from $9,350 to $12,400.

Piaget says the new watch has been created for today’s “generation of game changers…men who are ready to rewrite the rules. By choosing Piaget for a steel watch, they show with elegance and distinction that they play a different game.”

One can assume then that those characteristics must be embedded in the ambassadors who will sport the new watch: actors Ryan Reynolds and Michael B. Jordan; polo player Malcolm Borwick; novelist Joel Dicker; tennis player David Goffin; chef Jean-Francois Piege.

It’s a very diverse group of ambassadors, which implies the Polo S has a level of versatility not seen before in a Piaget timepiece. With its stainless-steel bracelet with alternating satin to polish-finished links, allowing it to work for both day and night occasions, perhaps the most defining characteristic of the Polo S will be its adaptability.
