The best UAE hotels NOT in Dubai or Abu Dhabi
Just because they’re not in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, doesn’t mean these UAE hotels aren’t worth visiting.Peter Iantorno November 6, 2014
Burj Al Arab, Emirates Palace, Atlantis, Royal Mirage... We could spend all day listing the amazing hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi but we'd be here all day, and in all honesty, doesn't everyone know about all of those places by now anyway?
But what other 5-star resorts has the UAE got to offer when you step outside of Dubai or Abu Dhabi? Well, many as it happens, as there are plenty of options in all the other emirates that will keep even the fussiest of travellers happy.
Here we've picked our top hotels in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah, plus one in Al Ain (which is actually part of Abu Dhabi) just for good measure. Looking for a place for that next staycation? Look no further.
Waldorf Astoria, Ras Al Khaimah (main image)
In terms of pure luxury and grandeur, the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah rivals anything Dubai or Abu Dhabi has to offer. Staying in one of the hotel's 346 spacious guest rooms and suites treats you to spectactular views of either the Arabian Gulf or the Hajar Mountains.
With an 18-hole championship golf course, 350 metres of private beach, an excellent spa, a huge outdoor swimming pool, a whole host of restaurants including Japanese, steakhouse and Arabic options, a secluded cigar bar and even a lively nightclub, everything you need is right there on site. Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa - Al Aqah Beach Lush green gardens, white sandy beaches, sparkling swimming pools and cascading waterfalls... No, we're not describing some far-flung desert island, you can have all of that and more at the Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa.
The luxurious spa, and various restaurants and bars - including an excellent cigar bar and an extremely popular swim-up offering - are all great, but the resort's big selling point is undoubtedly the stunning location. Details: rotana.com
Pearl Beach Hotel - Umm Al Quwain Although it may not quite reach the levels of luxury offered by some of the other hotels on this list, in terms of a relaxed atmosphere and perfect location - right on the beach - Pearl Beach Umm Al Quwain is hard to beat.
With an international restaurant, sports bar, Ayurvedic spa and various excusions to nearby attractions such as the Dreamland waterpark, there's no shortage of things to do. However, we think the best thing is to simply set up a barbeque on the beach and while away the hours. Details: pearlhotel.ae
Ajman Palace Hotel Living up to its name, the Ajman Palace Hotel is a rather grand building, towering over everything else in the immediate vacinity. But it has much more than just grandeur, with each of its 254 guest rooms and suites offering five-star levels of luxury and many offering captivating views out over the Arabian Gulf.
In terms of dining, you certainly won't be short of options, as there are a wealth of choices, including an Arabian fine-dining, a Chinese, a delightful sea-view bistro and even a stunning rooftop shisha lounge perfect for taking in the views. Details: hmhhotelgroup.com/theajmanpalace
Radisson Blu Resort Sharjah Maybe not the first place you'd think of for a getaway, but Sharjah's Radisson Blu Resort, set right on its own private stretch of beach, has the perfect location and all the facilities you need for a relaxing break.
With six dining options, including Chinese, Indian and a quirky indoor garden restuarant that's perfect for breakfast, the food is taken care of. In terms of activities, the hotel offers special rates on a round of golf at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club. Details: radissonblu.com/resort-sharjah
Danat Al Ain Resort Yes, we're quite aware that Al Ain is part of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, but a stay in the Danat Al Ain Resort will leave you in no doubt that you're well and truly out of the city. An oasis of green in a sparsely populated area of Al Ain, the resort's expansive grounds are more akin to an English country garden than a desert retreat.
But if relaxing in lush grounds by one of the Danat's two pools isn't your thing, then the hotel also offers various tour packages, such as desert safaris and a trip to the nearby Al Ain Zoo. And with a wealth of dining options, including Arabic, Indian, Italian and even a good old-fashion English pub, you certainly won't go hungry. Details: alain.danathotels.com
