Nico Rosberg: How to travel like a Formula One Driver
Ahead of this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg shares his essential travel tips with EDGAR.EDGAR staff November 23, 2015
Nineteen races in nineteen countries across North America, South America, Europe, Australasia, Asia and the Middle East – the passport of a Formula One driver is a well-worn item (their air miles accounts are looking pretty healthy too).
Who better, then, to ask for travel tips? Now in his tenth F1 season, the two-time World Champion Nico Rosberg has been around the block a few times, and arrives in the UAE for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 27.
Here, we chat to him him about all things travel.
Where do you like to take a holiday?
I’m lucky because my favourite place is my home in Monaco. But for holidays I like to visit Ibiza.
Where haven’t you been that you’re dying to see?
There are still a lot of fascinating places that I haven’t seen yet, such as the Galapagos Islands and the Caribbean. I would really like to go on safari in South Africa and then go and stay in Cape Town.
What do you miss about home?
The main things are obviously my wife Vivian, my dog, my family. I also miss things like my own bed, my couch and those home comforts.
What have you learnt about packing?
It’s all about organisation and preparing everything in advance. The most important thing – which I never manage – is to make a proper list at home, so that every time I travel I just need to look at the list and I know what I need to pack.
Are you good at being organised?
Right now, I am doing it randomly and that is not good. I always need stress to get ready and that isn’t great. It is always last minute, so I have to work on that. That’s why I am always two minutes late!
What cities do you love?
London and New York are incredible. There’s so much to see and cool things to do.
What are your travel essentials?
My BlackBerry, toothbrush, passport, my IWC watch, and my wallet.
What do you do to get away from the track?
I like to chill out with my wife, and walk my dog along the beach.
What’s the worst part about travelling?
Sometimes it can be frustrating being away from home so much of the time. However, it’s all part of doing my dream job so I wouldn’t change it.
