Make a splash: 7 indoor pools to escape the Dubai summer
From the exclusivity of the Burj Al Arab’s infinity pool to the party pool with underwater speakers at Grand Hyatt.Meryl D'Souza May 19, 2016
Summer is here. And unless you’re willing to take a bath in sunscreen, we suggest you skip the beach and outdoor pools or risk looking like a well-done steak.
That doesn’t mean you can’t take a dip. Here's where you can keep working on that butterfly stroke champ. Just make sure you’ve got some classy trunks on too.
Hamdan Sports Complex
You can’t have an indoor pool story without the world’s best indoor aquatic facility. That tag naturally makes the Hamdan Sports Complex one for a budding Phelps within the UAE. Not only does it include an underwater sound system so that you can listen to your jam while going all-out in the pool, the complex also features a 50-metre pool with moveable floors in the event it needs to transform into a 25-metre pool.
Burj Al Arab
The two enormous indoor infinity pools meandering about 150 metres above the Arabian Gulf means you’ll have to swallow your vertigo as you do your laps. Since this is the Burj Al Arab we’re talking and not your regular 5-star hotel, you’ll nee to be a hotel guest or a member of the spa to partake in the pool extravagance.
Ahasees Spa & Club, Grand Hyatt
Hyatt calls it a lap pool but nothing about it will make you want to exercise. The picture windows, sunbeds and dim lighting are not a setting you’d wan to work out to. Taking the entertainment level a notch higher, the 20-metre, temperature-controlled indoor pool offers an underwater sound system and has a Jacuzzi close. Hakuna Matata!
Another one for the fitness freaks, Fit Republik’s 50-metre, eight-lane pool is designed to whip you into shape by tearing you down. Their website makes it sound easy by telling you all the areas you’ll be working on with “minimal impact on your joints and bones”. It’s no cakewalk. A session here, and you’re done for the day.
When you’re too bogged down at work and your annoying boss doesn’t see that you deserve a break, you can take one with a swim at Four Seasons. While the places gives you that personal sense of being on a holiday. Just remember that you’re not on one and at some point you have to go back home. P.S: don’t bring the kids.
Talise Ottoman Spa, Zabeel Saray Hotel
Should you choose to leave the comfortable recesses with single beds and candles, you can take a dive into a swimming pool the colour of Amanda Seyfried’s eyes. Although they don’t restrict you to, don’t be that wannabe gym freak who wants to workout. The Talise Ottoman Spa pool is for people who like to relax. Take your restless, exercise-starved body somewhere else.
Talise Fitness, Madinat Jumeirah
Tucked away within Madinat Jumeirah, this pool takes you away from the bustle of the city life. It even makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the ocean with its deep blue tiles. Just in case you’re missing out on the experience because you don’t know how to swim, there are swimming classes for all ages on offer.
