New Dubai Corinthia hotel planned for JBR
The 55-storey Corinthia at Meydan Beach will be the hotel group's first location in the Middle East.Neil Churchill June 14, 2016
If you’ve been down Dubai’s JBR Walk recently, you would have noticed building work taking place on the right-hand side where the Meydan Beach Club used to be.
We had assumed for a while that this was simply Meydan revamping the popular Café del Mar and pool that were a hotspot for the area’s stylish sun worshipers. But it’s not; it’s something far better.
It will in fact be a Corinthia hotel, the first in the Middle East, officially named the Corinthia at Meydan Beach.
The 300-room, 55-storey luxury tower will house residences too, with 60 high-end serviced apartments within its glass façade.
The agreement between Dubai’s Meydan Group and the European hotel collection will see Corinthia help with the design development before fully operating the new property. It is scheduled to open in 2019.
Located in a prime position on JBR beach, between The Ritz-Carlton and Hilton hotels, the Corinthia will have all the usual luxury aspects: landscaped gardens and pools, private beach, restaurants, leisure facilities and a luxury spa, corporate event spaces, and so on.
Some may question if JBR’s already busy Walk needs another high-end hotel spoiling the beach view, and in truth it probably doesn't. When the hotel opens it will surely only add to the area’s traffic, and the beach's public areas are certainly diminishing.
But as one of the finest global names in luxury hospitality, it’s about time that Corinthia was in Dubai. And with Meydan as a partner, you can safely assume that this place is going to be special.
