Woman of the week: Katy Perry
The highest-paid woman in music has got a tough gig at the Dubai Airshow this week, but we think she’ll pull it off.EDGAR staff November 9, 2015
What is your idea of a typical Katy Perry show? Ours is hoards of screaming young girls jostling for position in front of the stage, while their reluctantly attending fathers stand around at the back of the concert trying their best not to get caught ogling at the stunning Perry strutting her stuff on the big screen.
We reckon that is a pretty accurate description of most of the 31-year-old singer’s performances, and up until now it is a formula that has worked wonders for the star – she is the top-earning female singer of the past year, having raked in a staggering $135 million from June 2014 to June 2015.
But what would a Katy Perry show be like if the hoards of screaming girls were absent and only the awkward dads – struggling to keep their wandering eyes off the gyrating pop star – remained?
Well, we’re about to find out, because on Tuesday, November 10, Katy Perry will play an exclusive private concert to the guests at the Dubai Airshow Gala Dinner – and as far as we're aware, there will be no screaming teenagers in attendance.
Set to take place on Atlantis The Palm’s Asateer Terrace, the invitation-only event is likely to be full of the movers and shakers in the global aviation industry – hardly your typical Katy Perry fan base. Yet, despite what is likely to be a less than exuberant welcome from the industry bigwigs, we reckon that the Firework singer is going to more than hold her own on Tuesday.
Why? First of all, she has form of playing slightly unusual events in Dubai, having already played at the close of the World Parachuting Championships at Meydan in 2012 (above), so she'll be well-versed at geeing up disinterested crowds.
And second, well, just look at her! Who wouldn’t give a star this stunning their full attention?
Good luck Katy, we’re sure you’ll smash it.
