Last Friday, Google crashed and online pandemonium ensued. Twitter was flooded with people quite literally questioning if it was the end of the world. Thankfully, normal service was resumed after less than two minutes.

The whole ‘experience’ led us to thinking: what would our lives be without Google? With a world of information at our fingertips, it seems incomprehensible that people ever got their facts from any other method (sorry, Yahoo!) and we’ll be the first to admit we’ve taken the world’s biggest search engine for granted.

We can’t help but feel we’ll soon be nonchalant about the new partnership between Etihad Airways and Google, who have teamed up to provide instant flight details and booking capabilities. Just visit Google.com/flights - but we warn you, it will probably end in you booking a holiday.

The Etihad partnership is just one of the huge number of extra services, add ons and hidden gems from the Californian company that show its fun side as well as its genius. There are far too many to mention them all, but here is our top 10:

1. Google in 1998

Simple, pointless, yet funny - much like many things on the internet - this features allows you to see how Google looked all the way back in 1998. Simply type the word’s “Google in 1998″ into the search bar and prepare for a blast from the past.

2. Google Sphere

Created by a third party, Google Sphere takes the standard Google homepage and makes it, well, spherical. The best way to get there is to type “Google Sphere” into the search bar then hit the “I’m feeling lucky” button. This one in particular is pretty cool.

3. Elgoog

Elgoog - Google backwards - claims to be a rotated version of the popular search engine. It provides access to all Google’s most popular hidden tricks from down the years, including the interactive guitar that was used in celebration of Les Paul’s 96th birthday, and the insanely addictive Google Pac-Man.

4. Tilt

Type “tilt” or “askew” into Google and watch your screen tilt over to the right. Don’t worry though, if you don’t want a cricked neck, just navigate to a different page to set it back to normal.

5. Zerg Rush

One for online gaming geeks - but just as fun even if you don’t know what it means - if you type the words “Zerg Rush” into the search bar and click enter, a swarm of letters attack the screen, destroying the search results.

6. Do a barrel roll

Type “do a barrel roll” into the Google search bar and watch your screen rotate 360 degrees. Pointless? Yes. But funny nonetheless.

7. Atari Breakout

Another one for old-school game fans, simply type in the words “Atari Breakout” into a Google image search and a playable version of the classic game appears on your screen.

8. Anagram

Not so much a trick as a little joke left in by Google developers, a search for the word “anagram” will return the result “did you mean nag a ram”.

9. Google gravity

For another dose of silliness, type “Google gravity” into the search bar then hit “I’m feeling lucky”. You’ll be greeted with a normal-looking Google homepage, until you move your mouse, at which point everything will collapse and land in a heap at the bottom of your screen.

10. All the Google Doodles

Probably the most definitive place to find all the Google quirks is Google.com/doodles. The site has a list of every single doodle ever used - there are more than 2,000, so don’t go on there unless you have time to kill!
