Apple event reveals iPhone 11 Pro and much more

Words by Nathan Irvine

New iPhone 11 Pro release date is September 20.

In what was one of the most packed Apple Events in recent years, the US tech giant revealed its iPhone 11 Pro. It was showcased alongside a number of other products (more on these later) and will be Apple’s most powerful smartphone to date.

So what’s new about the iPhone 11 Pro (from AED4,219)? As well as having the fastest processing speeds, spatial audio abilities and a eye-searingly sharp Super Retina XDR display, it’s mostly about the new camera.

It’s no surprise to see Apple lean into the camera so heavy with this new model. Its smartphones just so happen to be the world’s most popular devices to take snaps on. And with iPhone 11 Pro its adding professional photography functions that are simple to understand.

Picture perfect

iPhone 11 Pro has a triple-camera at the rear. One is a wide camera, another is an ultra wide version and the last is a telephoto lens. All three are 12mp and combine together to give you the best possible shots in whatever conditions. The automatic Night Mode will even brighten the most poorly lit spots.

You can slide between three different photo styles with one shot – so no need to switch positions.

The cameras also lift the 4K 60fps filming capabilities. Something that legit movie makers can use for high quality videos without the expensive, back breaking equipment.

An improved front camera now includes a slo-mo feature, which enables you to take a “slofie”. Not our cringeworthy turn of phrase – this one is on Apple.

Support acts

Although the event was geared up towards iPhone 11 Pro’s headline act, there was a whole host of other Apple devices too.

There’s a dual-camera, slightly less expensive (from AED 2,949) iPhone 11. It comes in purple, green, yellow, black, white and red. It has most of the functionality of the Pro model, and will represent Apple’s entry level model for its new device.

Apple TV+ now has a release date and will land on November 1. It’ll be aggressively priced at AED 19.99 per month, which makes it the lowest priced video subscription service on the market. That noise you here is Netflix and Amazon taking a collective gulp in disbelief.

More?

There’s a new Apple iPad (from AED 1,349) too. The retina display now has enhanced Smart Keyboard support and works seamlessly with the Apple Pen.

Apple Arcade, the video game subscription service (AED 19.99 per month), launches on September 19 with over 100 original and exclusive games.

And lastly, there’s the Apple Watch Series 5 (from AED 1,599) will arrive on September 20. It will have a built-in compass, an always on display and the ability to contact local emergency services at the push of a button, wherever you are in the world.

Best of all, you can now customise the case, display and strap in Apple stores to get it exactly how you want.

Phew, that’s a lot of Apple products arriving before the end of 2019.
