Best fitness YouTube channels to get you in shape

Words by Nathan Irvine

Subscribe to these and crush your goals.

The best way to keep your fitness journey going in 2020 is to find inspiration and motivation from wherever you can. When you hit that inevitable lull in your fitness quest, it can be hard to get out of. Before you know it, you’re ordering pizzas and melting on the couch watching Netflix around the clock again.

What workout routine should I do? What should I eat? Do I really need to buy that 1kg tub of whey protein? Finding the answers to these and more can be overwhelming and leave you feeling frustrated. But there’s help out there. And brilliantly, it’s all free.

Youtube is the best place to find free coaching tips. It’s like having a personal trainer minus the expense and feeling of guilt everytime you don’t show up to one of their sessions. You can find everything you need to help you achieve your goals.

To help you cut straight to the chase, we’ve rounded up our favourite tried and tested channels. Hopefully you’ll find your inspiration and motivation with one of these. Good luck.

Jeff Cavaliere of Athlean-X.

From tips on improving your back squat to an ab blast workout set to the ear-worm of Baby Shark, Athlean-X has it all.

Fit Men Cook

You won’t get ripped or lose that jiggly belly fat if you don’t have your nutrition on point. And that’s where Fit Men Cook can help you out. Kevin Curry presents a channel packed with delicious protein-packed recipes that can help you shed the pounds. The hook? Curry creates his dishes and meal prep to tight budgets. So you don’t have to worry about your bank account getting a workout just to stay fit. We’ve tried this KFC style popcorn chicken and can safely say it’s delicious. It tastes too good to be considered healthy, but it really is.

Buff Dudes

We know what you’re thinking. This must be a channel dedicated to “dude bros”. The type of apes in the free weights area that seem to be using every dumbbell and making guttural screams on every rep. But it isn’t. Hudson and Brandon White are incredibly self-aware and have a self-deprecating brand of humour. Their light-hearted approach to workout tips, nutrition and common mistakes is both practical and funny. The brothers are genuinely entertaining, and their advice will push your workouts to the next level.

CT Fletcher Motivation

Warning: CT Fletcher is not for the faint of heart. Pretty much every video is expletive-laden - so, maybe watch the NSFW video below with headphones on - but CT is an inspiration to millions for a reason. The former power-lifting champion is like a positive drill sergeant. He barks motivational, no-nonsense instructions that all boil down to “keep reppin'”. It may seem one-note, but he’s living proof that his methods work. Even at 60 years old and having recently undergone a heart transplant operation, CT Fletcher is still probably doing more work in the gym than you.

Bodybuilding.com

It’s kind of an obvious choice, but Bodybuilding.com has to be on the list. The sheer amount of workout routines, recipes and more provides a one-stop shop for everything you could ever need on your fitness journey. One area we find it most helpful is when it comes to educating people about supplement use. Rather than simple recommendations, they detail what the likes of creatine or whey protein do to the body. Then you can decide if you need it. Bodybuilding.com also has an archive of old school training videos, which we find fascinating.
