The Best Sneakers of 2019 (so far…)

Words by Gareth Kurt Warren

2019 is shaping up to be a good year for sneakerheads. Three months in and we have already been blessed with a bunch of sneakers.

Being the resident sneakerhead of the office, Digital Editor Nathan, asked me to put a list together of what I thought were the coolest sneakers that have been released so far.

So, here they are in no particular order. And if you disagree, argue with me here.

Adidas X Game of Thrones Ultraboost (House Lannister)

We’ve been waiting a very long time for these and the limited-edition adidas x Game of Thrones Ultraboost sneakers are nearly here.

The collaboration features a collection of six limited edition Ultraboosts that include House Stark, House Lannister and House Targaryen.

While the masses would flock to either one of the two Targaryen colourways, I’m a fan of the Lannister Ultraboost (pictured above) because it looks rarer than most. The Starks, Night’s Watch and White Walker versions look like the usual colourways of the mass-produced Ultraboosts anyway.

Reebok Sole Fury

Reebok’s flagship, the Sole Fury, is one of the most technical sneakers out there. The split in the sole is much more than a unique design element – it’s functional, comfortable and helps make your fitness activities much easier. Besides being a training sneaker – it looks gorgeous and can easily double as a show sneaker for a night out on the town.

Adidas Yeezy Boost 700 V2 Static

Yes, these kicks released on December 29 2019. But I don’t care. It deserves to be on this list. Even though the Yeezy Boost 700 V2 ‘Inertia’ released in early March – the Static is, in my opinion, one of the best-looking Yeezy sneakers out there.

Nike Air Max 720

Look at these! There isn’t a single pair from the entire 720 range that doesn’t deserve to be on this list.

The entire range hit our shores on February 28 at AED 969. While everyone would vibe with the Northern Lights Day or Northern Lights Night colourways – I love the “Sunset” Colourway (Pictured). There’s something for everyone, they have the dark “Total Eclipse” and the brighter “Sea Forest” and “Pink Sea” colourways as well.

PUMA RS-X. Extreme Reinvention

PUMA’s RS-X range is a sneaker that just keeps on giving. The RS-X range initially got the attention of sneakerheads with the Toys – a bright and loud colourways reminiscent to toys we’ve grown up playing with in the 90s. After that came the Transformer Range, and even the RS-X Ferrari edition. They are not stopping. Despite the majority of their versions being quite loud, I’m a fan of the Extreme Reinventions solely due to its subtle design with 2 to 3 colours making up the shoe. To put that into perspective – the RS-X Toys rock over 6 colours.
