Bill Murray and Jeep had the best Super Bowl ad

Words by Nathan Irvine

A Groundhog Day delight.

For those that don’t know, Super Bowl ads are huge business these days. Each advertiser is looking to outdo the other with celeb-filled productions that are akin to Hollywood shorts. And with millions of eyes watching the finale of the NFL season, a tonne of money is spent on both the prime TV slot and the advert itself.

However much Jeep paid Bill Murray to star in its latest ad was more than worth it.

Murray reprises his role of Phil Connors from 1993 classic Groundhog Day. A movie where Phil is caught in an infinite loop of waking up to the same things happening every single day.

Riffing on this, Jeep and Murray show that waking up and reliving the same scenarios isn’t as bad as in the movie. Well, not when you’ve got one of the new Jeep Gladiators to play with.

On repeat

The short clip - that’s left us wanting more - shows Phil taking the Jeep truck to different locations with an actual groundhog. They cycle together, take off the traditional doors and drive through snow and at one point, the animal is seen at the wheel of the versatile vehicle. It really is great.

As for the Jeep Gladiator, we expect to see it arrive in the UAE some time in 2020. And with the love for Jeep in the region, the off-road truck is bound to be a big hit.
