In the corner of the grooming section at Harvey Nichols Dubai stands a beautiful red barber chair. But don’t get excited, treatments aren’t available, it’s only there for show and the occasional promotional event – sorry, chaps.

But anyway, why would you get a haircut when you could play with the most complete range of elite grooming brands in Dubai? Four stools surround a giant marble table, upon which are copper bowls, towels and those old-fashioned glass water dispensers. Take your pick from the scrubs, face washes and moisturisers and try them out – it’s like a grown-up men’s version of a children’s messy play activity centre.

In the skincare section you’ll find bestsellers Kiehl’s and La Mer, plus Jack Black, Clinique, Tom Ford, Clarins, Triumph & Disaster, Hawkins & Brimble and more. Clad in navy and sky blue packaging that reminded us of the Argentina away football shirt, we liked The Gentleman, the skincare division of historic London brand Floris. English brand Proverb, which uses sports nutrition as the basis for its products, is also one to try.

Over in the fragrance section, things get really serious. Kilian, Penhaligon’s, Bulgari, Ex Nihilo and Byredo are the big hitters, but look out for ultra-exclusive scents from Paris-based Thomas Kosmala who is currently tearing up the fragrance rule book.

Thankfully, artificial mall music is not allowed in this department inside Mall of the Emirates; instead you’ll hear the likes of Roxy Music, David Bowie and Jamie XX while enjoying your product playtime.
