Get behind the wheel of the legendary QE2

Words by Nathan Irvine

All aboard.

We’re absolutely fascinated by the images taken of the QE2’s bridge. The legendary ship’s home at the Mina Rashid port has been a gathering point for various tours, brunches and more, but now you can get a glimpse inside the command room where former captains sailed the high seas. It’s a big deal as only the senior crew and the most important of people were allowed access in the ship’s heyday.

The bridge is a real throwback. It has obviously been well preserved since it stopped cruising the oceans, but it feels like a snapshot that has been frozen in time.

The lo-fi tech of switches and knobs look archaic by today’s standards. You can almost smell the nostalgia from the wood trim and carpet combo. It really is a relic, but it’s one that we love.
