Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort and Spa review

Words by Nathan Irvine

RAK it up.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa is that it feels like you could be anywhere in the world there. Sure, it’s a cliché but when you head out for a staycation you want to feel like you’ve escaped your surroundings even if you’ve only travelled in a car for a couple of hours. That’s what we have here.

It offers panoramic views of the glistening Arabian Gulf from each of its rooms and villas, and comes with its own private beach. On the other side, skyscrapers are replaced with a rugged mountain range that will sate your wanderlust.

Our abode for the stay was a two-bed family villa with a private pool. It’s a roomy setup with that’s perfect for you and your brood or, as we noticed around us, with a group of friends. Brilliantly, there’s a spacious crib on hand for those bringing small children with them.

There are HDTVs dotted all around the villa, but we didn’t just rock up here to be glued to another screen. That pool on the doorstep is the big attraction. Oh, and the the man that cycles up and down the coast with a menu full of refreshingly cold snacks or beverages. And having an unspoiled private beach a flip-flop throw away from the villa isn’t too bad either.

Hilton The sunsets alone are almost worth the entry fee.

Food, glorious food

For general dining Maarid in the hotel’s main complex is the place to be. It’s a buffet affair that caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the latter being themed each night. Think Mediterranean, seafood or Arabic. Thankfully, it’s a huge space with enormous food stations spread out well, so there’s no need to sharpen your elbows here.

We broke from the norm and sampled the Al Maeda – the resort’s relatively new Lebanese restaurant. Traditional dishes such as tabbouleh, shish taouk and manakish are all in order and, well, massive. Seriously, you will want to go to Al Maeda hungry because the portion sizes aren’t for the faint-hearted. We’re pleased to report that the food is superb and will bookend a day at the resort perfectly.

Hilton Ras Al Khaimah resort and spa is certainly worth a look. The white-hot temperatures cost us valuable beach time, but even then we still had a blast. Get booking that end of year staycation now. You deserve it.
