Hublot releases the Big Bang E connected watch

Words by Rob Chilton

Smaller than the first model, but with more tech inside

Back in 2018, the referees at the football World Cup in Russia wore Hublot’s first connected watch. Measuring a beefy 49mm, lifting their arm to brandish a yellow card or waving ‘play on’ must have been quite a workout for the referees’ biceps.

Two years on and Hublot have updated the Big Bang E with a smaller 42mm model, available in a titanium or black ceramic, with improved tech under the hood.

GMT dial option

Perpetual calendar titanium version

The watch is controlled via the AMOLED high definition touchscreen as well as the rotary crown and pusher. Dials to choose from include the classic analogue, a Perpetual Calendar with moon phase, or a GMT face with a crystal clear depiction of the Earth. A series of eight other more playful dials come from the artist Marc Ferrero, which change colour every three hours.

Powered by Wear OS by Google, the Big Bang E is water resistant to 30 metres, Available now online and later in store, the watch has a strap that can be interchanged with just one click. Hublot’s regional director for Latin America & Caribbean and Middle East & Africa, David Tedeschi favours the GMT dial and insists the watch is easy to use.

Case back

“I’ll be honest, the last smartwatch I wore was an Apple Watch. I’d wear it for two days and then forget about it because it’s not luxury. I’ve worn the Big Bang E for one month now and I’m not bored of it. The functions are really easy to use, you just need to use your intuition.”

Coloured straps are available

Tedeschi believes this new connected Big Bang will push Hublot’s reputation into new areas. “Hublot is the opposite of traditional brand,” he says with a grin. “We’re always trying to find new ways to interact and we really believe in this connected world.”

Prices from around $5,200 (titanium) and $5,800 (black ceramic)
