MusicJay-Z to Headline Woodstock 50

Words by Nathan Irvine

Fingers crossed this isn't another Fyre Festival.

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival. The 1969 showcase that attracted more than 400,000 people achieved legend status thanks, in part, to memorable performances from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane.

Woodstock 50 will mark the occasion between August 16 and 18, and feature performances from Jay-Z and many more.

In fact, the East Coast rapper is expected to be part of a hip hop heavy slant that will pull together the hottest stars in the industry right now.

The Who at Woodstock

Sources The Who rocking the stage at the original event

As you’d expect, Woodstock 50, which takes place at Watkins Glen, New York, promises to be a star-studded affair. As well as Mr Beyoncé, The Killers, Chance The Rapper, The Raconteurs, and Miley Cyrus have all (allegedly) added their names to the line-up.

Best of all, iconic guitarist Santana will take to the stage, too. The artist, who’s music has an unbeatable endurance, played the original festival five decades ago and will be sure to fire out classics such as “Soul Sacrifice” and “Black Magic Women”. The full list of acts is rumoured to be announced in April.

Let’s just hope it’s slightly better than the crime-filled disaster that was the 1999 anniversary event.
