Khabib vs. McGregor 2: UFC boss says dream fight could be on

Words by Nathan Irvine

The Eagle to fly out of retirement?

UFC president, Dana White has teased fans with the possibility of Khabib vs. McGregor 2. White announced the news during the Holloway vs. Kattar event held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi last night. And it has rightly sent followers of the MMA showcase into spin.

For those who don’t know, Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement in the octagon following his dominant title defense against Justin Gaethe on October 24. His father had sadly passed away before his final fight due to Covid related problems. However, White always believed that Khabib made his decision too soon and would eventually return to improve his 29-0 winning streak.

White and Nurmagomedov had a sit down in the UAE capital recently and it seems The Eagle could return. Listen to White on how the conversation played out…

Bad blood

OK, there are no guarantees that Conor will beat Dustin Poirier. And we highly doubt Nurmagomedov would be interested in a second fight with Poirier, having already beaten him in 2019.

And sure, Khabib may have mentioned Charles Oliveira - another contender on a hot streak - but this feels like a smokescreen. If you read between the lines, Nurmagomedov and the UFC would really only be interested in what would be the biggest fight in UFC history - Khabib vs. McGregor 2.
