The fully functional 42-footer was originally commissioned by Toyota’s curious President Akio Toyoda after he stated his desire to see “what Lexus could do” with a boat project. The resulting dayboat with its swooping lines and twin 5-litre Lexus V8s was an instant hit – so much so, that Toyoda has given the go ahead for it to go into production, but a bit bigger.
The new yacht, to be more in line with Lexus’ luxury image, is expected to be a 65-foot sport cruiser with luxury staterooms on the lower deck and entertaining space for up to 15 guests.
Toyota’s executive VP Shigeki Tomoyama was in buoyant mood at the recent announcement during the Japan International Boat Show. “Based on our amazing experiences in engineering, building, testing and showing the Lexus Sport Yacht concept last year, we’ve decided to take the next bold step of producing an all-new larger yacht that builds on the advanced nature of the concept while adding more comfort and living space.”
