There are a few schoolboy errors blokes are making when it comes to filling out their wardrobe. And inevitably it then follows them around as they wear the contents everywhere they go. Follow these style tips and you’ll go from boy to man in no time.
Colour is the spice of life
Yosta Mullenders: I see a lot of men who are stuck with wearing blue and they’re afraid to wear other colours. Introduce some brighter colours into your look; start small, a pink pocket square for example.
Sia Emborg: Men are hesitant to choose bolder colours. But a pop of colour – maybe a pocket square or socks – helps men to stand out, especially in offices where men often look exactly the same. Contrasting colours is also important and so easy to create a different look – try a white t-shirt with a navy blazer, or a white button down shirt with a grey blazer.
Focus on fit
YM: The fit of clothes is so important and a lot of men don’t know their correct size. A guy came in recently and everything he was wearing was too baggy. He told me he was XXL and a 42 waist. We tried on some things and it turns out he was a 36 waist and a large slim fit. Clothes that are too big look messy but well-fitting clothing looks neat and trendy.
SE: With menswear there is slim fit and regular fit so a good place to start is by asking yourself which one are you. Sizes differ a lot from brand to brand so it’s a jungle out there for men. You really have to try things on.
