Art

Monet, van Gogh and more added to Louvre Abu Dhabi

Words by Nathan Irvine

Winter classics

Louvre Abu Dhabi has scored some classic signings for this winter season. With a mixture of new permanent fixtures and loan signings, the number one gallery in the UAE has bolstered its lineup. It can thank the generosity of the France Muséums network for its new pieces from van Gogh, Monet and more. And art fans can see these new acquisitions right now.

Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Director, Manuel Rabaté says “The generosity of our lending partners, through the France Muséums network of museums and from the UAE, will allow visitors to experience masterpieces rarely seen in this region, on view side-by-side.”

Picture perfect

Of the new fixtures areFemale figure praying” (Iraq, 2800- 2550 BCE) and the “Feline-shaped Incense Burner” (Eastern Iran or Central Asia, 1000 - 1100). The loan pieces include Claude Monet’s “In the Norwegian” (France, circa 1887) and Vincent Van Gogh, Caravans, Gypsy Camp near Arles (France, 1888).

Here’s a sneak peek of what you can see up close this winter.
