PFL set to unearth the Middle East’s next big MMA star in 2021

Professional Fighters League is looking to set-up live events in the region too.

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) plans to make a big moves into the Middle East in 2021.

In a move that will cement the UFC and Bellator competitor’s position in the region, PFL’s mission is to find the next GCC MMA star.

For those that are unfamiliar, PFL is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) brand. As the name suggests, it has a league format where male and female fighters rise and fall in the rankings.

This is then followed by a playoff season and then a grand finale with a cool $1m cheque up for grabs.

The fast-growing promotion already has stars such as ex-UFC and Bellator fighter, Rory MacDonald (pictured) and US Olympic boxing champ, Kayla Harrison on its roster.

It’s a knockout

We’re told that the PFL plan to be on the ground in the Middle East in 2021 to see the talent up close. Ray Sefo, who serves as President of Fighter Operations for PFL, is apparently set to make an appearance in the region early in the year to personally scout the local talent.

Exact details of how the scouting process will work are still being hammered out. But talks between the US promotion and key stakeholders in the Middle East are progressing well, with dates for a live show in Saudi Arabia potentially on the cards.

With the support and might of PFL, the next big thing in MMA just might come from the GCC in 2021.

The 2021 season of PFL kicks off again on April 23.
