WatchesAlexander Zverev is new Richard Mille Ambassador

Words by Rob Chilton

Tennis star Alexander Zverev follows in the footsteps of Rafa Nadal as a Richard Mille ambassador.

As a youngster growing up in Hamburg, Alexander Zverev loved watching Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal battle on court. The talented 21-year-old, who is seen as a potential great of the game, has set his sights on emulating their remarkable achievements.

While he has not yet won a Grand Slam like Roger and Rafa, Zverev does at least now wear a watch from the same brand as Nadal. Zverev has inked a deal to wear the RM 67-02 that, at just 32 grams, is the lightest automatic watch in the Richard Mille range.

It features the colours of Zverev’s German flag and has a seamless, highly elastic strap for superior comfort. Zverev said he was honoured to receive the watch and added, “I want to thank everybody who worked on developing this beautiful piece.” Now you know about the watch, here’s what you need to know about Alexander Zverev

  • Ranked third in the world, Zverev’s best Grand Slam performance is reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2017.
  • Alex and his older brother Mischa, also a tennis pro, are coached by their Russian father. “I think the reason my relationship works so well with my Dad is that we can separate our tennis lives from our personal lives,” says Alex. “Once we’re off the court, we forget about it.”
  • As well as tennis, the six feet six Zverev played soccer and hockey as a kid and also loves basketball. He’s a fan of Miami Heat.
  • He’s won eight tour titles in his career so far, the most recent coming in May when he defended his Munich Open crown and won the Madrid Masters, beating Rafa Nadal on the way.
  • Nicknamed Sascha, he was born and raised in Hamburg but now lives in Monte Carlo.
