Sport For All

Words by Rob Chilton

Worldwide photography competition captures dedicated athletes at the sharp end of competition.

Sports photography isn’t just about Paul Pogba’s goal celebration and his new hairstyle, or Rory McIlory holing a putt on a pristine Florida golf course as the sun sets majestically behind him. Sometimes sport can be a harsh environment where athletes on meagre pay packets sweat, toil and grunt their way to success without the help of agents and image consultants.

Photographers from around the world have captured the less glamorous world of sport for the 2018 edition of the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards, which will be announced this month. Chair of the judging panel Mike Trow talks EDGAR through a selection of images in the sports category taken by professional photographers.
