CarTesla’s Model Y is its Fastest Car Yet

Words by Nathan Irvine

The fully electric-powered SUV will leave the Lamborghini Urus in its rear-view mirror.

After teasing the world with a silhouette of the Tesla Model Y, the US electric-car specialist has finally been revealed.

Elon Musk was on hand to unveil the SUV at a swanky event at Tesla HQ in LA on March 14. It represents the company’s first leap into the sports utility vehicle realm and, more impressively, the fastest Tesla Model yet.

Model Y’s standard version, with a range of around 300 miles on one charge, is no slouch off the mark. But jump into the cockpit of the Performance model and you’ll blast the 0-60mph in just under 3.5 seconds. Impressive, right?

The roomy SUV will be one of the safest vehicles around when it arrives in early 2020, too. It passed a number of rigorous tests, and fits comfortably into Tesla’s mantra of only rolling out incredibly safe cars to consumers.

We’re also impressed by the enormous panoramic glass roof that comes with each vehicle. Although, we’re not sure what measures Tesla will put in place to protect us from the desert sunshine of the Middle East.

There’s no fixed date on the release yet, but the Model Y is expected to land in Q1 of 2020. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel of one.
