The North Face goes glamping with Gucci

Words by Rob Chilton

A new collection of out-there gear for the great outdoors

The hills are alive… with the sound of Gucci. The Italian fashion mega-brand has laced up its hiking boots and pitched a tent with The North Face.

The expert outdoors clothing brand founded in San Francisco in 1968 has lent its technical fabrics to Gucci who has in turn splashed its iconic logo and floral prints across a range of backpacks, hiking boots, padded coats, bomber jackets, windbreakers, T-shirts, sweatshirts and fleece jackets. There’s even a tent and sleeping bag for true fans of the fashion and function collaboration.

Padded coats keep out the chill

Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele scanned The North Face’s archives from the 1970s for inspiration for the collection that features a mashed up logo featuring TNF’s curves and the red and green stripe of Gucci.

Snug and stylish

In keeping with Michele’s new eco-focused philosophy, backpacks and body bags have been constructed with Econyl, a nylon fabric made from recycled materials. To promote this new partnership, models strapped on the technical gear and posed in the majestic Alps for a series of photographs shot by Daniel Shea that have echoes of the 1970s.

Although definitely eye-catching and original, we doubt we’ll see any of the Gucci x TNF pieces being worn by mountaineers summiting Mount Everest.
