YouTuber creates world’s first Tesla pickup truck

Words by Nathan Irvine

A Frankenstein's monster of an automobile.

Tired of waiting for Tesla to unveil a pickup truck model of its battery-powered vehicles, Simone Giertz has taken matters into her own hands.

The popular YouTuber got to work on creating her own version and has finally revealed ‘Truckla’.

Make it so

The whole project took twelve months – from idea to fully working machine. Giertz says that she ‘wanted an electric pickup truck’ but ‘didn’t want to wait for years until it came out’. So along with a little help from her friends, Giertz set to work.

Originally, it was going to be a ‘cut and shut’. So the front half was a Tesla Model 3 and the back would have a flatbed truck portion welded onto it. Giertz ultimately decided that cutting off half the roof, and gutting the boot to install a custom box would be best.

The result is a very well made, if not odd looking, Tesla pickup truck. And it’s the closest we’re going to get to an Elon Musk verified version until 2020 at the earliest.

If you’re interested in how the whole ‘Truckla’ was put together, you can check out Simone Giertz’s step-by-step video here. But be warned, the language is fairly NSFW. You have been warned.
