When aiming to make a sartorial impression at a polo match, the desired attire should be both comfortable and stylish.

There are a few points you need to consider when deciding what to wear, with the weather being a major factor for this part of the world. In hot and humid climates such as the UAE’s, you should always select a lightweight natural fabric that breathes in order to stay as cool as possible.

The wrong choice of fabric, no matter how elegant and fashionable the design, will certainly create an impression in the heat, but the wrong one when it causes you to perspire heavily. Select natural fabrics such as linen, cotton and wool, which can be worn individually as well as in a blend (linen/wool mix, cotton/linen mix).

Consider wearing cotton chinos or linen trousers matched with a linen, cotton or mix-fabric shirt and a blazer; either in the same fabrics or in lightweight all-weather wool.

Dressing for the polo.

A waist coat is optional, but accessories are essential. Choose a pocket square that matches the shirt or trousers, with a bowtie in the same colour if you are feeling adventurous. A small artificial boutonnière can be used to match the ensemble, with a Panama hat nicely topping off the whole outfit. If you are wearing a belt, make sure it matches your shoes.

You could, of course, ignore all this and just opt for a traditional polo T-shirt, the official sporting kit of the game and an established casual fashion garment in its own right. But that would be just playing it safe.
