Some of the greatest cycling champions in the world will descend on the UAE’s roads today as the Dubai Tour returns after a successful inaugural event last year.
Held over four days, famous names such as current Tour de France champion Vincenzo Nibali, Mark Cavendish, Alejandro Valverde, Tony Martin and John Degenkolb will be taking part in the 660km race for the awesome Circle trophy, although they will all be looking far more stylish and on trend than they normally do.
That’s because this year none other than legendary fashion designer Sir Paul Smith has made the leaders’ jerseys. Produced by Castelli, Paul Smith has lent his eye and iconic style to the Dubai Tour, with each of the four jerseys sporting protective measures from the climate, as well as their unique colours.
To ensure the cyclist’s comfort in the warm weather, the jerseys use Castelli’s lightweight high-tech fabric that is both UV-protective and also allows for a rapid rate of heat dissipation.
A cyclist himself for many years - it wasn’t until he had an accident that he turned to becoming a fashion designer - Paul Smith’s passion for the sport’s heritage and culture is evident in the video below.
The Dubai Tour 2015 Paul Smith jerseys are as follows:
