The squeak of fresh sneakers will be heard in Dubai this month as sneakerheads unite for Sole DXB 2018. Big time rapper Nas headlines Dubai’s festival of hip-hop, fashion, art and basketball on December 8 which, this year, is themed on the next generation of young creators from emerging markets. Sneaker Swap provides a platform to buy, sell or trade sneakers, while big brands such as Adidas, Puma, Reebok and Dior will release new models. Look out too, for events remembering 1988’s acid house-fuelled Second Summer of Love.
Cape Town and Johannesburg were key research locations for Sole DXB co-Founder Raj Malhotra to unearth new talent that will relish their opportunity to shine in Dubai. “We connected with designers, artists, musicians and creators to learn their stories and dig into their culture, he says. “South Africa is a good representation of what street culture looks like when it’s still organic.”
As well as the numerous exhibitions, pop-ups, talks and presentations, Sole DXB is also a walking footwear festival where the envious sneaker gawping of visitors will be off the scale.
