Disclosure interview: Electronic music maestros

interviewThe electronic music hit-makers Disclosure talk exclusively to EDGAR about life, fashion and being compared to the Gallagher brothers.

British EDM royalty, Disclosure are a pair in demand. Guy and Howard Lawrence have long since established themselves as one of the finest electronic music-makers out there with tunes such as “Latch” and “You & Me”.

These days they’re headlining sold out gigs across the world including the recent Wake Up Call Festival at the W Dubai, The Palm. We managed to catch up with the pair to chat fashion, memorable moments and why comparisons to the Gallagher brothers might well be accurate.

Q.

What’s the biggest “wow” moment you’ve ever experienced while on tour?

A.

Probably playing Madison Square Garden in New York for the first time. It’s something we never possibly imagined ourselves doing. We had our family and friends were out there too. It was a crazy evening.

Q.

What’s best gig you’ve ever played and why?

A.

Headlining the other stage on Friday night at Glastonbury was next level amazing. We are obviously biased because we grew up watching every band and act we loved playing there. It was always the end goal, and we got best slot we could have hoped for and the best crowd. Unforgettable.

Q.

And the worst?

A.

We played in a tent at a festival in England once where the extreme weather outside tore a hole in the roof. We got absolutely soaked along with all our equipment and the power went off. The crowd saw it all happen and we ended up having to replace all our stuff before our next show the following day. It was pretty awkward too. We ended up going into the crowd and taking pictures with them.

“What makes you so sure we aren’t like Liam and Noel?”

Q.

What’s your typical outfit style when you’re on-stage?

A.

We’ve been in an agreement for the past couple of years that our outfits are all black everything. Black shoes, black jeans, black tee. It just works best at creating a silhouette against the visual screens behind us. We don’t consider ourselves fashions icons.

Q.

How does the audience differ in Dubai than the rest of the world?

A.

It varies from show to show. There are only a handful of countries where we can predict what the crowd will be like, but Dubai being such a multinational place, we always get a surprise.

Q.

How did the Wake-Up Call Festival gig come about?

A.

Our promoters put us onto it. It’s great because we haven’t been back to Dubai in a while. We really need to do a skydive there at some point.

Q.

Sibling rivalries are fairly common, how do you manage these so as not to end up like the Gallagher brothers?

A.

What makes you so sure we aren’t like Liam and Noel?

Stay tuned for more information on the next Wake Up Call festival.
