Mr Robot

interviewTalking AI with Aaditya Tangri, Co-Founder & CEO of Kalebr Americas and Founder of STEAMathalon.

Q.

A common outlook is that robots will eventually replace human workers. In fact, Boston Dynamics has already created “Pick” and “Handle” that are capable of basic factory work. You have a different take - can you explain why?

A.

Robots powered by Artificial Intelligence and connected by “Internet of Things” will replace human workers. Workers, being the keyword here. Robots will not easily replace or be a perfect substitute for human innovators and smart creatives. Hence, the emphasis of what we do at Kalebr and STEAMathalon is on promoting future skills like creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, coding, making, life-long learning and practising well-being. However, the jobs created by the fourth industrial revolution will far outweigh the temporary shift in job redundancies.

Q.

What are the next steps in the evolution of artificial intelligence and how will it benefit humankind?

A.

I think the most immediate evolution of AI will be to serve in the form of autonomous machines working under supervision with humans, for example, drones, cars, ships and trucks. I also believe it will allow for quicker data analysis in the case of medicine, well-being, banking, energy and education. This would result in us humans to be able to make further calculated and informed decisions as well as provide insight into how to better allocate resources.

Q.

Humans increasingly rely on the likes of Siri and Alexa - do you see this as harnessing a service for the better or weakening the brainpower of humans?

A.

This is definitely for the better assuming that the data is well protected and being utilised ethically. How good would it be if we are able to delegate smaller, routine and non-essential decisions to smart assistants and instead use our time on creating value, promoting well-being and connecting with others?

Q.

What’s the ultimate benefit of artificial intelligence so far and why?

A.

Time is a scarce resource. Time is of utmost importance. Time is every diminishing. AI in many ways may just allow us to live our time with smarter decisions, give us more time to be humans and use our time for the greater good.
