Talking travel with the Jurassic World movie star

interviewChris Pratt spends half the year on the road shooting movies. He spoke to EDGAR about his packing tips, his favourite destinations and the dream trip he has planned for his son.

The star of the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy movie franchises recently took his first trip to Hong Kong as he was revealed as the new ambassador for Tumi luggage. EDGAR met with the self-effacing movie star to talk about travel.

Q.

What do you always take on trips?

A.

A note or a toy from my son, a bible, my necklace, a Rubix cube and my laptop.

Q.

What’s your best travel advice?

A.

Roll with the punches. Sometimes you can plan your journey, but sometimes your journey chooses you.

Q.

How do you combat jet lag?

A.

Roll with it, try to stay up, don’t take a nap. If I feel foggy brained and a little loopy I do a good workout and sweat really hard.

Q.

What’s your number one packing tip?

A.

Roll clothes, don’t fold them. Also, use packing cubes. I have one each for shirts, socks, underwear, dirty laundry and workout clothes. I live out of my suitcase so I like being organised.

Q.

What do you always forget to pack?

A.

Deodorant. My team calls me ‘yard sale’ because wherever I go I leave stuff everywhere. Without them I’d starve to death in 45 minutes.

Q.

What’s the strangest place you’ve visited?

A.

San Miguel de Allende Pyramids Mexico, they were amazing.

Q.

What’s been your most memorable movie location?

A.

I shot Zero Dark Thirty in Jordan, during which time I saw Petra, one of the Wonders of the World – it was remarkable.

Q.

What do you like to do on long haul flights?

A.

Sleep. Don’t wake me up for airplane food, thanks – I’ll eat when I get there.

Q.

What’s your travel grooming tip?

A.

Wear SPF. The sun is nice but it’s not your friend and you don’t want to look old. I like a nice face mask too, it makes a difference.

Q.

Where’s your next active holiday?

A.

I really want to go scuba diving off Thailand; I’ve heard the water and reefs there are dope.

Q.

Where do you dream of going one day?

A.

Madagascar would be sick. I’ve never been to Africa so that’s my dream destination – I want to take my son on safari.

Q.

Which of your big screen characters would you least like to sit next to on a flight?

A.

Star Lord [from Guardians of the Galaxy] because there’s a chance he could be kidnapped and the plane might blow up. I don’t want that element of danger when I travel.
